'Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Spoilers: Will Stefan And Caroline Get Together In Episode 11?

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 6 returns Thursday, and it looks like Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) fans might have something to be happy about in the midseason premiere. The two will be taking a road trip in Season 6, episode 11. As previously reported, Caroline will search for a miraculous cure for her mother’s brain tumor, and it just so happens that she’s headed to the same place that the real Sarah Salvatore goes to school. It seems like a good time for Stefan and Caroline to bond.

“He really cares about her,” Wesley told Entertainment Weekly of his character. “He really loves her. That’s not even a question. That’s never really something that he doubts.”

So if Stefan loves Caroline, then this road trip has to be good for their relationship, right? Apparently not. The actor, who also directed the midseason premiere episode, will spend some time away from Caroline. “But it’s true; in the story they go there together, but then they kind of separate. They kind of go their own ways to do their own things and investigate their own personal interests,” Wesley explained.

That doesn’t mean Steroline is stuck in the friendzone, though. Considering Caroline didn’t even want to talk to him earlier this year on "The Vampire Diaries," taking a road trip together is a lot of progress for them. “Obviously, Caroline is going through a ton and Stefan as a lot of ground to make up, in terms of being a good friend,” showrunner Julie Plec told E! Online. “He really does step up and does work hard to win her friendship back and he is her rock through the whole experience. It really bonds them beautifully and will lead to questions about are there feelings there, can those feelings go anywhere? We'll see how that plays out over the rest of the season."

It seems Steroline shippers will have to wait all season to see if Stefan and Caroline finally get together. Luckily, not every couple will wait the entirety of Season 6 to get together. Plec has hinted at a hookup between Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev), so at least one Salvatore brother will be united with his love.
