Veronica Mars fans are one day closer to the "Veronica Mars" film they helped make a reality.

The film -- which fans supported with more than $5 million of their own dollars donated to the project's budget through Kickstarter -- has kicked off shooting, reports MTV.com.

A photo was released showing Kristen Bell sitting in the driver's seat of a convertible. The car is parked in front of 09ER, "Neptune's Hottest Nightclub," according to a photo posted to the film's Instagram account.

Bell also tweeted a picture of herself holding what looks to be a movie script as well as a handy Veronica Mars duffel and what appears to be a paperweight fashioned after her character.

"Annnnnnnnd.... ACTION. @TheVeronicaMarsMovie has now started shooting!" was the pictures caption.

She also posted a photo of herself exercising with a weighted hula hoop.

"Veronica Mars" creator Rob Thomas wrote a script for the movie, which continued the series after it was canceled in 2007 after three seasons. For several years Warner Bros. refused to fund the movie project and it sat untouched.

In March a Kickstarter campaign was launched to fund the movie and more than $5 million was raised in a month, reports Us Weekly. Almost 92,000 fans donated money to the campaign. A record-breaking $2 million was raised in one day.

Bell will be joined for the film by a host of familiar faces from the television series. These include Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni, Percy Daggs III, Chris Lowell, Francis Capra, Sam Huntington, Amanda Noret and Tina Majorino.

The project has a planned release date for early 2014. Warner Bros. is to distribute the film.
