VIDEO ‘SNL’ Skits From Last Night: Watch Cold Open, Weekend Update Remembers Norm Macdonald
The “Saturday Night Live” Season 47 premiere wasted no time poking fun at the current issues plaguing President Joe Biden. The episode was hosted by actor Owen Wilson and featured musical guest Kacey Musgraves.
Aside from the politics, the sketch comedy show also joked about “The View” and took a moment to remember a late “SNL” star.
Here are some of the notable sketches from the first episode of Season 47.
Cold Open
New featured player James Austin Johnson took on the role of President Joe Biden as he discussed the infrastructure bill and struggle for approval ratings. He was later joined by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (Alex Moffatt), Senators Joe Manchin (Aidy Bryant) and Kyrsten Sinema (Cecily Strong), and House Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (Melissa Villaseñor), and Ilhan Omar (Ego Nwodim).
The skit mirrored Biden’s real-life setbacks as members of his own party disagreed with portions of his infrastructure bill. “As a wine drinking tri-sexual athlete, I know what the average American wants,” Strong said.
She then revealed she was against the bill because she no longer wanted there to be roads so there can be chaos.
Later on, Villaseñor reminded everyone that AOC attended the Met Gala. “I wore a dress that said tax the rich then spent all night partying with the rich. Oops!” she said.
“The Talking”
The skit poked fun at an incident that happened on “The View” earlier this week in which two co-hosts were removed from the set after falsely testing positive for Covid-19.
Heidi Gardner was the first co-host to learn she tested positive when Wilson, who played a doctor, came on set to ask her a few personal questions before telling her the bad news.
When Gardner asked if they could discuss the matter privately, Wilson explained that he couldn’t.
“I’m sorry I have to inform you of your test results,” he said. “It has to be on TV for HIPAA reasons.”
He then removed a Bryant who also tested positive. However, it came back for Strong’s character who tested positive for HPV. At the end of the skit, Nwodim was informed the results were a false positive, except for the HPV diagnosis.
Weekend Update
Co-anchors Michael Che and Colin Jost paid tribute to Norm Macdonald, who anchored the fake news segment during the 1990s and died last month.
Jost revealed Macdonald was the reason why he wanted to be on “Weekend Update” before dedicating the final moments of the segment to old footage of the late comedian’s jokes.
Macdonald signed off by saying, “And that’s the way it is folks, good night and good luck.”
Reality star Kim Kardashian will host the next episode of “Saturday Night Live” with Halsey as the musical guest.
