It will be brother against brother in the “Vikings” Season 5 finale episode. A preview video of the next episodes teased that this will not be like the previous war. This new war will bring forth Ragnarök, a time when the kingdoms of earth will burn and the gods will die. The end of days may be near for many of the characters as the scenes of battle teased the deaths of many more warriors before the chaos ends.

The combined armies of King Harald (Peter Franzén) and King Olaf the Stout (Steven Berkoff) will descend on Kattegat in the next episode. The real battle will be against King Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) on one side and his brothers, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) and Hvitserk (Marco Ilsø), on the other.

A preview video of the finale episode posted on Facebook showed that Kattegat is well prepared for an invasion. Many of Bjorn’s warriors will burn to death before they breach the walls of Ivar’s kingdom, and the situation seems bleak for all the invaders.

King Olaf the Stout and Hvitserk’s army appears to be the first one to attack. Just as Ivar is close to defeating the first army, Bjorn will join the attack. The defenses of Kattegat appear to be strong enough to send all the invading warriors to Valhalla.

In the previous episode, King Olaf had already warned that they may all be heading to their deaths. The preview video now showed the king explaining how the world is heading towards Ragnarök, which is also what the Seer (John Kavanagh) hinted at when he said that the world will descend into darkness.

Ragnarök is one word that is on everyone’s lips. Bjorn and King Harald can also be seen talking about it in the preview video. Will the invading army fail? The potential defeat will once again prove that Ivar can’t be defeated in battle.

What the preview video doesn’t show is Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick). The former queen of Kattegat was last seen riding off with Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith), instead of joining another battle against Ivar. The scene of her going with Ubbe has been posted on Twitter.

According to Cartermatt, the “Vikings” Season 5 finale episode may be the time when Lagertha will die. According to the Seer’s prophecy she will die at the hands of Ragnar’s (Travis Fimmel) son.
