Furious-8 cast
Vin Diesel has something to say about “Fast and Furious 9” getting pushed back. Universal Studios

The release date for the ninth installment of the “Fast and Furious” franchise has been pushed from April 2019 to April 2020, with a spinoff featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Hobb’s character coming in 2019 instead.

This news hit franchise star Tyrese Gibson hard, and he wasn’t too happy with Johnson, who he blames for delaying the sequel, even calling “this clown” out on social media in posts on both Wednesday and Thursday this past week. While Johnson hasn’t publicly responded to Gibson’s comments, fellow star Vin Diesel has now jumped in to give his thoughts on the matter.

“Brotherhood... and all it's [sic] complexities. This scene was filmed in Puerto Rico, I can remember it like it was yesterday. Such a beautiful island, the people were so warm and welcoming,” Diesel captioned a photo of a “Fast” scene featuring his character and Johnson’s. “I turned 43 that summer... and my son Vincent was born. A woman named Jan Kelly responded to a question I had asked on Facebook, ‘who they would like to see me work with?’ She said would love to see me work with Dwayne... I listened to her request and he became Hobbs.”

With the beginnings of this caption, Diesel only proves once again that the “Fast” franchise has always been about the fans and family. He listens to what his fans want and takes their thoughts and comments into serious consideration. He also reminds everyone once again that the cast truly is family, which means that there will be both good times and times where they fight.

“I know there has been a lot of speculation as to why the ‘Fast 9’ release date was pushed... but it would be unfair to say it is anyone's fault,” Diesel continued. “As we plot the course to expand the ‘Fast & Furious’ universe, one must be mindful to take stock of the roads we took to get here. The pillars of authenticity, family and most importantly, our loyal fan’s perspective has been instrumental in procuring success. However, like any vehicle that has run around the globe 8 times, the franchise is in need of maintenance. My good friend and the godfather of Universal, Ron Meyer has granted me the time to do just that. We have some very exciting news to share soon... stay tuned.Yours truly, Dom #FamilyAlways.”

While Diesel is trying his best to be diplomatic about everything that’s going on and about the comments that Gibson posted to his Instagram the other day, he’s also making it clear that he doesn’t quite agree with his co-star. The 50-year-old actor thinks it is “unfair” to blame anyone, and even assures fans that this is what’s best for the franchise to make sure everything is right. He’s also teasing even more “Fast and Furious” news.

Hopefully Gibson will be happy about what this next franchise news is, or fans can expect more posts on Instagram about what’s bothering him. That said, it is interesting to see both him and Diesel be so transparent about what's going on behind the scenes and in their minds, especially with Diesel chiming in and helping to clear the air after Gibson went after The Rock the way he did.

“#PSA Congratulations to @TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41 for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU,” Gibson captioned his first photo about Johnson earlier this week. “And like you, DJ even if they call I will not be deleting this post - Gn folks see you in 2020 April #FastFamily right? Nah..... it's about #TeamDewayne #3yrs will it be worth the wait? #NoShaw just Hobbs will this be another #BayWatch? Guys guys just relax I'm just a passionate film critic.”

Then, when he posted his next photo about the “Fast 9” delay and calling out Johnson, things only heated up.

“Diversity, love, multi ethnic worldwide multi generational, United Nations, One Race, Fast Family...... Until Dewayne showed up I guess this whole time he had a problem cause he wasn't the ONLY ONE on the movie poster........... I guess dreams do come true congratulations to @hhgarcia41 and @therock you guys are just amazing you really broke up the #FastFamily,” he captioned another photo.
