‘The Voice’ Host Carson Daly’s Stepdad Dies One Month After Mother's Passing
It’s only been a month since Carson Daly’s mom died. Now, he is also mourning the death of his stepdad.
“The Voice” host announced his “Pops’” passing via his Instagram account on Tuesday. Daly shared a photo of his stepfather, Richard Caruso, all smiles in front of the camera. Daly called Caruso “the best man” he has ever known, as well as his “hero.”
Towards the end of his lengthy caption, Daly said that his stepdad and mom, Pattie Daly Caruso, are now reunited and are in a better place. Pattie passed away after suffering from a heart attack in her home in Palm Desert, California.
On Tuesday morning, Daly revealed to his followers on Twitter that he and his family are experiencing a “rough month” after his mom’s shocking demise on Sept. 17. At that time, he also revealed that his stepdad’s health was “in peril.” Daly’s biological dad, J.D., died in 1979 due to bladder cancer.
Days after his mom’s death, Daly returned to the “Today” show and said that he’s doing “OK.” “I’m healing, still in shock, really rough loss. Nobody likes that phone to ring in the middle of night to get that call. I’ve learned it’s a process. I have great faith, great family, incredible friends,” he said.
At that time, Daly also thanked his fans for all of their love, prayers and support.
In 2013, Daly opened up about his relationship with his mom, how Pattie met Caruso, and the day his biological father died when he was still very young. According to Daly, when Pattie was diagnosed with breast cancer, he told her that he would accompany her to the hospital. But Pattie was very selfless that she asked him to continue hosting a live show.
When her first husband died, Pattie also stayed strong for her kids. She eventually met Caruso and tied the knot. “I’d always say God blessed me with two incredible dads,” Daly said on “Today.”
