"The Walking Dead" Season 10 finale will air on AMC on Oct. 4. The new release date, along with other updates, was announced during the show's virtual panel for Comic-Con@Home.
On Friday, fans of the zombie apocalypse series were shown an extended teaser of the highly anticipated episode during "The Walking Dead's" Comic-Con@Home panel. The Season 10 finale, titled "A Certain Doom," was originally set to air on April 12, but post-production work was put on hold due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Showrunners also revealed that six additional episodes of "The Walking Dead" Season 10 will air in 2021.
The Season 10 finale will feature the return of Lauren Cohan’s Maggie. According to "The Walking Dead" television universe chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, Maggie will "return somewhat a new character."
Maggie has been missing since the show jumped six years into the future. It was later revealed that she was away helping Hilltop benefactor Georgie (Jayne Atkinson) with a new community.
"The dynamics that she left the story in are not the dynamics that she's coming back to and for her especially, it's like she took a year off of high school and she's coming back and everybody has changed," Gimple told Comic Book.
The extended trailer unveiled at Comic-Con@Home also featured Maggie reading a letter penned by Carol (Melissa McBride), who talks about the group's newest threat — the Whisperers. The note also informs Maggie about the many people they have lost, such as Tara (Alanna Masterson) and Enid (Katelyn Nacon).
The upcoming episodes will also see Maggie learning that her husband’s killer, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), is a free man. Negan was set free by Carol, who wanted him to kill Alpha, the leader of the Whisperers.
"All the things have scrambled and there's Negan in a very different role," Gimple said. "And it's a reintroduction. She can't just pick up where she left off and she's carrying a story with her that, yeah, will expand things."
Elsewhere in the highly anticipated "The Walking Dead" Season 10 finale, viewers can expect an exciting scene involving Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Negan.
"There is something in the finale that's very bazooka-like, when that airs," Reedus teased to Comic Book, adding that Morgan was present for the big moment. "[The star was] literally right there at my feet."
