‘Walking Dead’ Season 4 Spoilers: What Happened To Beth? Fate To Be Revealed In Season 5
Where in the world is Beth Greene? That was one of the many questions that “Walking Dead” fans were left with after the Season 4 finale episode on March 30.
Last time viewers saw Hershel’s youngest daughter was episode 13, “Alone.” While Beth successfully managed to escape the Governor’s attack on the Prison with Daryl, the pair was definitely having a difficult time surviving in the outside world. The duo moved from location to location, hunting and collecting small supplies from abandoned cars and buildings until they stumbled across a new safe haven – a funeral home at a cemetery. Despite a few stray embalmed bodies, the house was clean stocked with some food and supplies.
Initially planning on staying for a while, their new safe haven was compromised when Daryl tried to help a stray dog … and ended up letting in a hoard of zombies. Daryl told Beth to run and followed her out shortly after. However, when Daryl got outside he discovered Beth’s bag abandoned on the ground and a car speeding away. Daryl ran after Beth and the car, but couldn’t catch up or track where it went. It was when he collapsed on the road in defeat that he was found by Joe and the marauders.
So, who has Beth? And what do they want with the teen?
Despite a season finale poster teasing Beth’s fate, the blonde survivor was only featured in flashback scenes during episode 16, “A.” But that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating about what happened to her … especially after meeting the potential cannibals at Terminus.
As “Walking Dead” fans know, Rick’s group was reunited with Maggie and Glenn’s gang in train car “A.” One theory is that Beth was being held captive in a second train car, one that viewers heard screaming from when Rick, Daryl, Carl and Michonne ran by. Since Tyreese, Carol and baby Judith were also missing in action during the episode, it’s speculated that they might be in the same holding cell as Beth.
A second theory circulating is that Beth was featured in the season 4 finale … and can be found on Mary’s grill. Since no one is safe on “The Walking Dead,” Beth is fair game to get killed off. However we doubt the AMC series would make her death occur off screen.
What’s fueling speculation about her demise is the boneyard that the cameras panned across on the Terminus grounds. For the past couple of episode the series has made it a point to show how difficult it has been for the small groups to stay fed and to hunt animals. Yet the Termites seemed to have a generous supply of meat cooking on their grill at all times, and a pretty offensive amount of bones and organs piling up. If the people at Terminus are based off of the cannibals featured in “The Walking Dead” comic books, they would be preying on survivors that are weak or alone – which screams “BETH!”
Fortunately series creator Robert Kirkman squashed the Beth barbeque idea pretty quickly.
“I’ve seen that a lot on Twitter,” he explained to TV Guide. “When a theory is as prevalent as that one is, it’s more than likely not true. If there ever was a story line where we were going a different way and the audience seemed to be ahead of us to that point, it would be extremely unfortunate and I would not feel too good about how well we’re doing our jobs. Thankfully this doesn’t seem to be the case.”
“Walking Dead” fans will have to wait until October to find out what happened to Beth, but Kirkman promises that the series will deal with Beth, Carol, Tyreese and Judith’s whereabouts “fairly quickly” in Season 5.
“They could be in another train car,” he dished to TV Line. “They could be in part of the barbecue, as you say. Or, maybe, they found a Denny’s and they’re just having a good time.”
As for those hoping for Beth and Daryl to have a romantic relationship when they’re reunited? Kirkman responded that “If Beth ever comes back, hopefully, we’ll find a definitive answer to that.”
