‘Walking Dead’ Season 5 Spoilers: Andrew J. West Discusses His Terminus Character, Gareth
“The Walking Dead” celebrated the “Dead White and Blue” during the holiday weekend with a marathon of every episode. The fun on AMC kicked off Friday at 9 a.m. EDT, and is set to end on Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT with a very special episode of “The Talking Dead.” Fans can look forward to host Chris Hardwick delivering a sneak peek at the Season 5 drama. However viewers can satisfy their hunger for scoop on the new season with a quick interview Chris Hardwick conducted with new series regular Andrew J. West -- or as the Terminus folks know him, Gareth.
“What I can say about him is he’s definitely a complicated character,” Andrew J. West told Hardwick. “There’s more to him than initially meets the eye. He’s a pragmatist and he’s a survivor.”
For those unfamiliar with West’s character, Gareth made his first appearance on “The Walking Dead” during the Season 4 Finale. Rick, Daryl, Michonne and Carl snuck into Terminus through a back entrance to get a look at “them” before they decided to make their presence known. It was when they came forward that Gareth introduced himself as the leader of Terminus.
Appearing welcoming at first, “Walking Dead” viewers quickly realized Terminus wasn’t the safe haven it advertised itself to be. And despite fan theories about the “Termites” being cannibals, their motives were left unknown at the end of the fourth season.
Hardwick said the character of Gareth is “very calculated, seems very articulate and seems like smart guy.” The question of Gareth’s game plan and whether he is good or bad remains unanswered, but fortunately “Walking Dead” viewers might not have to wait until the fall to get more dirt on the sketchy new character. Andrew J. West will be a guest on “The Talking Dead” Season 5 preview special, and will further discuss his character.
