‘Walking Dead’ Season 6 Spoilers: What Happened In The Midseason Finale? Recap Before Valentine's Day Premiere
Grab your zombie fighting gear, “Walking Dead” fans. Season 6 of AMC’s hit series returns Valentine's Day after being on hiatus for a couple months.
Episode 9, “No Way Out,” will air at 9 p.m. EST on Sunday, Feb. 14. The new installment will pick up directly after the events from the midseason finale, episode 8. But where exactly did viewers leave off?
The attack from the Wolves earlier this season causes an unstable church tower to collapse on the wall, opening up the Alexandria Safe Haven to a horde of walkers. The residents are forced to split up in order to up their chances of survival. However, Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) group quickly realizes that they aren’t all going to make it out of the situation alive. Rick, Michonne (Danai Gurira), Carl (Chandler Riggs), Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) and Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh) are able to seek refuge at Jessie’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) house, where she has her two sons, Ron (Austin Abrams) and Sam (Major Dodson), as well as baby Judith. But after everyone is able to take a second to breath, it’ revealed that Deanna was bitten in the struggle to make it to shelter.
Deanna appears ready to accept her fate, happy that she was able to fight for her people’s safety to the very end. But elsewhere in the house, Ron and Carl’s feud threatens everyone’s lives. Finally snapping over the events from the past few weeks, Ron pulls a gun on Carl. Carl catches Ron’s move and is able to fight him off, but their movement alerts a group of walkers outside. The window in the garage breaks, allowing walkers to infiltrate their safe haven. Rick and Jessie find the boys before anything else goes down, however, Carl doesn’t rat out Ron’s attempt to kill him. Instead, when Rick and Jessie turn their backs, Carl forces Ron to hand his gun over.
Outside the house, Carol (Melissa McBride) and Morgan (Lennie James) continue to butt heads. Morgan was ready to put their differences aside in order to deal with the deadly situation at hand, but Carol’s unable to get over the fact that Morgan is trying to help one of the Wolves that attacked the town. She knocks Morgan down and runs to kill the member of the Wolves. Morgan’s able to stop her in time, and is forced to knock her unconscious. But Carol may have been right. The prisoner turns the tables on Morgan and knocks him out with his own bo staff.
Cutting himself free, the Wolf turns to Denise (Merritt Wever), who was previously tending to his wounds. Rosita (Christian Serratos), Tara (Alanna Masterson) and Eugene (Josh McDermitt) race into the building, but they can do nothing to save Denise. The Wolf threatens to kill Denise and takes her hostage into the walker-infested streets.
Denise isn’t the only one in harms way. Maggie’s (Lauren Cohan) stuck on a lookout post that is surrounded by walkers. While she’s safe up high, the large number of walkers below threatens the structure of the post. The good news is that Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Enid (Katelyn Nacon) made it back to the outskirts of Alexandria just in time to see everything go down.
The midseason finale ends with Jessie’s home getting overrun with walkers, forcing Rick and Michonne to make an important decision – they must somehow leave the house. The duo hatches a plan to cover everyone in zombie guts in order to sneak out. But that plan doesn’t work for Deanna. Suffering from a fever due to her walker bite, Deanna decides to stay behind. However, before the others leave, Deanna makes Michonne and Rick promise to keep fighting for a better life for the people at Alexandria. She takes one final stand and uses her remaining bullets to take out a few final walkers before letting them descend on her.
The episode closes with Carl holding baby Judith as Rick leads Jessie, Sam, Ron, Father Gabriel and Michonne into the streets of Alexandria. The guts and blood throws off the other walkers, but Sam’s cry for his mom threatens to ruin their plan.
