Wall Street slammed by AIG fallout, economic worry
Stocks slid on Monday in a broad sell-off as a record $61.7 billion quarterly loss at embattled insurer American International Group
The Dow Jones fell to it lowest since April 1997.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 207.08 points, or 2.93 percent, at 6,855.85. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> tumbled 23.96 points, or 3.26 percent, at 711.13. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> lost 33.27 points, or 2.41 percent, at 1,344.57.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell to its lowest since May 1997 on an intraday basis, hit by selling in financial, energy and industrial stocks.
