What Is Queen Elizabeth II's Retirement Plan?
Queen Elizabeth II’s retirement plan has been frequently discussed by the media recently. So, what exactly are the 93-year-old royal's plans?
USA Today confirmed that the office of her eldest son, Prince Charles, was the one to officially break the news that Queen Elizabeth II wouldn’t retire anytime soon, saying, “There are no plans for any change in arrangements at the age of 95 — or any other age.”
On the Today Extra Programme, as reported by Express, royal expert Neil Sean commented on rumors that Her Majesty was retiring at age 95 after decades of service. According to Sean, a more likely possibility is that as the queen ages, her responsibilities will change, lowering her workload as she goes.
We’ve seen this recently, as Queen Elizabeth has been passing on her duties to other members of the royal family. Duchess Kate Middleton, for example, was recently named Royal Patron of Family Action, a duty that Queen Elizabeth held for over 65 years.
“There is one thing I truly believe about her majesty the Queen, she is a very loyal Queen as it were,” Sean said.
Sean also brought up the fact that, some time ago, the Queen mentioned that regardless of how long she lives, it is fully her duty to serve as Queen and to do it the best of her ability. It goes without saying that Queen Elizabeth is committed to her royal role, but Sean mentioned that “last week alone she was incredibly busy.”
“I stand there in awe thinking wow this woman is knocking on but she is still doing it," he said. "So she is kind of great inspiration as well, long may she reign."
The Queen may be slowing down and passing on some of her previous duties in lieu of a retirement plan, but she plans to remain on the job for the foreseeable future. If Queen Elizabeth II retires, however, then Prince Charles of Wales would be the one to inherit the throne, but he has full support in his mother maintaining the throne, as per his office's previous comment.
