When And How To Watch ‘The Get Down’ Part 2 On Netflix
“The Get Down” is a little different from most Netflix original series. While the streaming platform usually drops an entire season at once, auteur Baz Luhrmann’s ambitious project’s first season was divided. While viewers got the first six hours last summer, they’ll finally get the second half of the first season Friday. They’ll have to stay up late if they want to be first to catch up with the Get Down Brothers and Mylene and the Soul Madonnas.
On Friday, April 7, “The Get Down” Season 1, Part 2 premieres on Netflix. The musical drama will be released on the streaming platform at 12 a.m. PDT. However, those watching in Zeke and Mylene’s hometown of New York, or anywhere else on the east coast, will have to wait until 3 a.m. EDT.
The thing about Netflix originals, of course, is that you need to subscribe to Netflix. New users will qualify for a free month-long trial, but returning users have to choose a plan starting from $7.99 a month. Audiences have the option to watch via the app or the website.

The first episodes of “The Get Down” Season 1 introduced Zeke (Justice Smith) and his friends as they discovered rapping. His love interest Mylene (Herizen Guardiola) was trying to figure out how to reconcile her disco dreams with her family’s deep religious beliefs. The season left off with Zeke taking an internship in Lower Manhattan and Mylene going against her family’s wishes to chase a music career.
When “The Get Down” Season 1, Part 2 is released, it won’t pick up right where the show left off. There will be a time jump, and Luhrmann warned that the characters have matured in the year since they were last seen.
“The first half is a little bit more naïve. It’s a little bit more childish,” the showrunner told Vulture. “Whereas the second part, as they grow like adults — I mean, really, a year is like five. As they jump forward [from summer 1977 to fall 1978], the style of the show has a little bit more edge and complexity.”
Fans will have to tune in Friday to see if their newfound maturity has changed their relationships.
