When Is ‘Shrill’ Coming Back? Season 2 Will Have More Episodes

“Shrill” isn’t over yet. “Saturday Night Live” star Aidy Bryant will return in another season of the critically acclaimed comedy next year.

Hulu announced the “Shrill” Season 2 renewal Monday. Season 2 will continue to follow Annie (Bryant), a fat woman who decides to change her life instead of dieting all the time.

The “SNL” star took to Instagram to reveal the big news and thank the fans for tuning in. “[‘Shrill’] has been renewed for SEASON TWO!!! thanks for all your love and support of the show!” she wrote.

Like most streaming shows, it’ll be about a year before audiences are reunited with “Shrill.” Hulu confirmed that Season 2 will debut in 2020. The long wait will result in a longer season.

“Shrill” Season 1 only had six half-hour episodes, and the new season will give viewers a little more time with Annie. Hulu has ordered eight installments for the second season.

With any luck, Season 2 will help “Shrill,” based on the book of essays by Lindy West, have more time to highlight supporting characters.

“I think in a lot of ways we set up this person who is much bolder than we’ve seen before, so I’d be excited to see what kind of risks and adventures she’d be willing to take now that she’s sort of trying to let go of some stuff and be free,” Bryant told Vulture of a potential Season 2. “Also, I think with having six episodes, it kept us stuck to our A story, which is all about Annie, and I’d love to get into some stuff about Fran, and all our other characters, really.”

Bryant will continue to balance her two TV shows. In addition to “Shrill,” she is still a regular on “Saturday Night Live.” As previously reported, the actress said she plans to stay with “SNL” for at least one more season.

“This is my seventh season. That’s a long time. I’m really proud of what I've done there but I don’t feel at this moment that I’m ready to go. I’ll definitely go back for another season,” she told THR in February.

In addition to starring in the series, Bryant will continue to executive produce “Shrill” alongside Lorne Michaels, Elizabeth Banks, showrunner Ali Rushfield, Lindy West, Andrew Singer of Broadway Video and Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions.
