The mystery surrounding John Mayer's "Your Body Is a Wonderland" has been resolved.

There had been speculation that the track, which was the second major single released from Mayer's 2001 debut studio album "Room for Squares," was about actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, whom he was dating around the time.

However, Mayer debunked the rumor during his recent appearance on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast's first-ever holiday special on Spotify.

The 45-year-old crooner told host Alex Cooper that "Your Body Is a Wonderland" was about his "first girlfriend."

Mayer explained that he wrote the song when he was 21 and was feeling nostalgic about the things that happened when he was 16.

"That's one of those things where people just sort of formed that idea," Mayer said of the speculation that the track was about Hewitt, according to People. "It gets reinforced over the years... I had never met a celebrity when I wrote that song."

Hewitt also dismissed the claims during a 2007 interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying that the song was not about her as her body was "far from a wonderland."

"Your Body Is a Wonderland" helped Mayer's career skyrocket and was certified two times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The song also helped him bring home the Grammy for best male pop vocal performance in 2003.

When it comes to his songwriting process, Mayer told Cooper that he does not actually write "for people or about people."

While he might use his relationship with someone to write something, he explained that "it's like, that goes away, and I'm left with the song."

Despite revealing the inspiration for "Your Body Is a Wonderland," the singer said that he doesn't plan to regularly divulge who his songs are about.

"I don't like telling anyone that a song is about somebody because most of the time it's not," he said. "And it takes people away from themselves because they're just visualizing who I'm writing about."

Mayer has not released a new song or album since dropping his eighth album, "Sob Rock," in July 2021. But he will return to touring starting in May with his band Dead & Company.
