Who’s Coming And Going On ‘General Hospital’? Kirsten Storms’ Recovery Prompts Maxie’s Exit
“General Hospital” fans have been watching Maxie Jones go above and beyond to keep Peter August from corrupting their child. However, while the character was going through a major battle onscreen, the actress, Kirsten Storms, has been recovering from a major surgery.
After undergoing an operation for a non-cancerous cyst in her brain, Storms will be taking a temporary leave of absence from the ABC soap opera.
On Monday, it was announced the 37-year-old actress would be temporarily leaving “GH” to focus on her recovery. Fans that have been following Storms’ storyline are aware her character, Maxie, gave her baby to Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) after she found out her baby’s father, Peter (Wes Ramsey) was responsible for several murders.
Maxie last appeared in the July 19 episode of “General Hospital” in which she decided to take back her baby and leave Port Charles to stay in Texas.
Storms first informed fans about her brain surgery in June, after undergoing the procedure and assuring them she was fine.
“So I’ve not really spoken about this much, or at all actually. Less than 48 hours ago, I had brain surgery, hence the neck brace. It was on the lower portion of my brain,” Storms said in a series of Instagram Stories at the time.
Storms revealed her surgery came after dealing with a series of health issues over the years.
“I spent the last few years having random health issues that I disregarded as side effects to my medications or just something I was experiencing due to age,” she later wrote in an Instagram post.
After her doctor ordered an MRI, a cyst was discovered attached to the lower portion of her brain. “I feel very fortunate that my situation wasn’t more serious and that I had a wonderful neurosurgeon who immediately knew how to fix it,” she said.
“I’m not gonna lie, brain surgery had me nervous, but I’m immensely thankful to my family, friends, and incredible ‘work family’ who have been supportive, kind and loving during a time when I’ve been feeling a lot of emotions.”
However, storms remained optimistic about her recovery and had high hopes that the new plates in her head would give her the ability to knit a sweater in one day.
For now, “GH” has not announced any plans to have another actress fill in for Storms, and it remains unclear when Maxie is expected to return to Port Charles.
