Why Amy Schumer Isn't Bothered By Body Shamers Slamming Her Over Barbie Casting Rumors
Amy Schumer was recently bashed on social media after critics learned that she could potentially be cast to play the role of Barbie in Mattel’s upcoming movie. A few days later, she appeared on an episode of “Ellen Show” where she talked about the backlash.
In the episode, which will air on Monday, Dec. 12, talk show host Ellen DeGeneres commended the funnywoman for the way she handled the controversy. Schumer admitted that she has been fat-shamed many times before on social media. Luckily for her, being in the industry for so long has made her skin thicker. “I look in the mirror and I know who I am and I feel beautiful and I feel strong and sexy. And it doesn’t matter,” she said (via the Daily Mail).
Schumer went on to say that people who enjoy bashing others on social media are most likely the ones who have a lot of insecurities. “The people I think online trolling are in more pain than what we can possibly imagine,” she said.
Toward the end of her interview, “The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo” star said that she is proud of everything she has accomplished so she isn’t affected by anything negative. “They can scream as loud as they want. We can’t hear them because we are getting [things] done. I am proud to lead by example,” she concluded.
Meanwhile, Mattel’s concept for the upcoming “Barbie” movie is unlike the other films that have been released under the franchise. If Schumer will play the role, she will give life to a not-so-perfect version of the doll. As such, she will be kicked out of Barbieland. Immediately after her departure, Barbie will go on an adventure that she will remember forever.
The “Barbie” movie's release date has not yet been announced.
