Why Carrie Underwood Canceled Upcoming Shows After Pregnancy Announcement With Mike Fisher
Fans excited to enjoy a weekend of country music may be disappointed to learn Carrie Underwood won’t be present to belt out some of her popular hit songs. The pregnant singer has canceled her upcoming shows almost a month after announcing she is pregnant with her second child.
Underwood, who has not revealed the due date of her baby with husband Mike Fisher, is expected to release her sixth studio album later this month. However, it appears the 35-year-old has become sick ahead of her UK performances.
News of Underwood’s cancellations were first announced on Wednesday when a screenshot explaining her absence was shared on The Long Road Festival Twitter account.
“Carrie Underwood has been forced to cancel several upcoming promotional activities in the UK, including appearances at The Long Road Festival and Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park, due to illness,” the statement from Universal Music Group Nashville read.
Underwood was scheduled to perform at the music festival on Saturday and then hit the stage at Radio 2 Live the following day. Although Underwood won’t headline The Long Road Festival this year, fans will still be able to enjoy tunes from over 70 acts.
“We’re overwhelmed by the support we’ve received from our Country Family both on and off stage. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Carrie is of course irreplaceable, but we’ve listened to your suggestions and Aaron Watson has kindly offered to step into Saturday night’s headline slot on the Rhinestone Stage,” The Long Road Festival announced on the official Facebook page.
Meanwhile, Radio 2 Live updated their performers’ page by alerting fans about the singer’s cancellation. “Unfortunately Carrie Underwood is unable to join us at Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park due to illness. We wish her well and look forward to welcoming her to Radio 2 in the future.”
Underwood announced her pregnancy on Aug. 8, in an Instagram video. While sharing her plan to go on tour, she surprised fans by revealing “The Cry Pretty Tour” would have to wait until 2019 because she was expecting her second child. Fisher and Underwood, who married in 2010, are already parents to a son, Isaiah, 2.
Next up, Underwood is scheduled to appear on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Thursday, Sept. 13. However, it is unclear whether that performance will also be canceled.
