Why Did Pottermore Close? Reason Behind Popular Harry Potter Website Shutting Down
For the past eight years, Harry Potter fans have turned to Pottermore for all of their wizarding trivia and news. However, the time has now come to say goodbye to the popular website. In the future, where can Potterheads go for everything related to Harry, Ron, and Hermione's magical universe?
Pottermore, now Wizarding World, posted an official explanation as to why they decided to change the popular site and what new additions will be coming.
"The Wizarding World has expanded, and, as such, Pottermore.com has a new, bigger home for all of the magic you love," the official statement said, adding that they "brought over the content you know and love from Pottermore.com, and added some new, enhanced experiences."
Continuing, the statement said that the new website will be a place where fans can "delve deeper into J.K. Rowling's stories with articles on wizarding world themes." What will this new experience include? As of now, it has been revealed that fans will be able to take quizzes, watch exclusive videos, and stay up to date with the latest Harry Potter news via the redesigned site.
Other new features for fans to enjoy include being able to "choose your favorite Quidditch team, character, spells, places and food to share with other users."

Additionally, Potterheads will still be able to find out which Hogwarts house they belong to via online sorting ceremonies, but the updated site will offer a "fresh way to get sorted" thanks to the new direction. However, J.K. Rowling's original Pottermore questions will remain in place. Following your placement, you will also be able to get an exclusive Instagram frame revolving around which house "calls to you."
Following the rebranding, former users of Pottermore will be able to transfer their accounts over to Wizarding World by using their existing details, according to Screen Rant. This will include your prior house, wand and patronus. The Pottermore URL already redirects to Wizarding World.
Even though fans may be disappointed by the news, the change may not be such a bad thing. According to Wizardsandwhatnot.com, Pottermore faced limitations due to intellectual property rights. As the movies were owned by Warner Bros., there were always issues surrounding what the previous site could or could not show from the popular film series. Now, there will likely be fewer obstacles, meaning a more comprehensive experience for the users.
