Why Prince Charles Might Not Be Called King Charles III After Ascending Throne
Prince Charles is expected to change his official title once he is crowned as king. But there are predictions that he will veer away from being called King Charles III.
According to Express, the reason behind Prince Charles not choosing the title of King Charles III is quite simple, and it’s because he’s free to choose whatever name he wants to be called.
There is also a slew of arguments surrounding the title King Charles III because it comes after King Charles I and King Charles II, who were both very controversial.
Prince Charles doesn’t want to be compared to King Charles II of England because the latter was known for his Catholic sympathies. The future king doesn’t also want to be likened to King Charles I because he was executed after the English Civil War.
If Prince Charles won’t be called King Charles III, he could be called King Philip, King Arthur or King George VII. After all, his full name is Charles Philip Arthur George.
Meanwhile, royal correspondent Chris Ship told “Air Time” that he’s confident Prince Charles will be known as King Charles III in the near future.
“Well look, he’s not given the name Charles, I rather suspect he’ll keep it. Not least because I think there’s going to be a lot of debate when the change happens, about why we have a monarchy and why it exists… What’s the point of it and why don’t we potentially get rid of it,” he said.
Ship went on to say that changing Prince Charles’ name into something else while he’s in his 70s is quite odd because everyone is used to calling him, Charles.
“So, they’re going to have enough trouble with continuity and the transition without having to explain why he’s changed his name. Personally, I think we’ll have King Charles III,” Ship said.
