Why Selena Gomez Refuses To Talk About Boyfriend The Weeknd And Their Relationship
Selena Gomez and her new boyfriend The Weeknd might be enjoying a burgeoning romance, but that doesn’t mean the “Hands To Myself” singer wants everyone to know the details. The star, who has landed her first U.S. Vogue cover, hinted that she may have been burned following her very public relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber and doesn’t want to make the same mistakes again.
During her interview with the magazine, Gomez, 24, was asked about dating The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye. However, the singer told Rob Haskell of Vogue that “everything she has said about her relationships in the past has come back to bite her, and that she will never do it again.”
“Look, I love what I do, and I’m aware of how lucky I am,” she replied when asked about her boyfriend. “But -- how can I say this without sounding weird? I just really can’t wait for people to forget about me.”
But while Gomez avoided openly talking about The Weeknd, she seemed to hint at her past relationship with Bieber during the interview. She appeared to imply that someone she used to be close with did not appreciate her love for her fans. After posing for photos with young fans dressed in “pinafores and pink high-tops,” she shared, “Somebody I used to hang out with would always get very frustrated with me, but I have a hard time saying no to children.”
The “Good For You” hitmaker also talked about social media and how she felt after becoming the most followed person on Instagram. While most people would have been ecstatic about the news, Gomez said she just felt pressured about her immense popularity on the photo-sharing site. “As soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out. It had become so consuming to me. It’s what I woke up to and went to sleep to. I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn’t want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn’t want to care about,” she shared.
Gomez chose to distance herself from the social media site to get rid of these negative feelings. “I always end up feeling like [crap] when I look at Instagram,” she explained. “Which is why I’m kind of under the radar, ghosting it a bit.”
Despite refusing to talk about The Weeknd in her latest interview, the former Disney star has been showing her boyfriend some love on Instagram in subtle ways. Gomez was recently spotted wearing a The Weeknd concert shirt in a photo posted to her mother’s production company’s Instagram account. One of her recent posts also showed her wearing a red hoodie that fans believe might be her boyfriend’s. Check out Gomez’s Instagram photos below!
