Why Some ‘Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night’ Kickstarter Backers Are Being Offered Refunds
Inti Creates is now offering “Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night” Kickstarter backers refunds after game designer Koji Igarashi announced that the metroidvania video game is not coming to the Wii U console after all. Igarashi also confirmed what previous speculations were claiming that the game is going to launch on the Nintendo Switch instead.
On Tuesday, Igarashi wrote an update on the Kickstarter page for “Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night” saying that the developers have decided to take the game to a new direction. Instead of bringing it to the Wii U, it will be released for Nintendo’s new console hybrid. “During our Kickstart campaign, the Wii U was at the height of its popularity, but then situation has drastically changed after the release of Nintendo Switch,” Igarashi wrote.
Igarashi then clarified that this change has to do with Nintendo not providing enough support for the team to launch the game on the gaming machine that was released in North America in November 2012. “This change made it difficult to receive the necessary support from the hardware maker, which has led us to drop the Wii U development and shift the development to Nintendo Switch,” the game designer explained.
In light of this change, Igarashi said that they are open to accommodating players who will be requesting for refunds. The developer also indicated that backers are also allowed to move their pledge to another version of the game, be it PC, Xbox One, PS4 or PS Vita. To do this, backers are requested to update their backer survey, so their preferred version will be reflected on the developer’s end.
For players who want to cancel or refund, Igarashi specified that they should meet the following criteria in order for their transaction to be processed:
- You filled out your backer survey and selected the Wii U version prior to this update.
- You backed at an unlimited tier ($28 to $500)
- You are able to receive a refund via PayPal
- You submit your refund request before the April 20, 2017 deadline.
*Refund requests will be processed via PayPal at a later date.
“Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night” is the latest game to have its upcoming Wii U version canceled. Last December, Playtonic announced that the Wii U version of “Yooka-Laylee” was canceled due to “unforeseen technical issues.” At the time, the developer said that it worked “tirelessly over many months in an attempt to solve” the problem, as per Eurogamer.
