Why Is Terrence Jenkins Leaving ‘E! News’? Co-Anchor Quits Hosting For New Career
Terrence Jenkins is handing over the microphone. The “E! News” host revealed that he will leave his job on the entertainment show, and he won’t be taking more hosting gigs.
“I started hosting when I was 16 years old back in North Carolina, and I've been now on national television for over 10 years,” Jenkins told audiences Tuesday night during “E! News” (via E! Online). “Seventeen years, that's a long time, and I think in order for someone to grow it's important that you try new things and you create new challenges, create new dreams for yourself.”
His new dreams still involve entertainment, but the host, who has been on E! since 2012, wants to be on the other side of the interview. Jenkins will chase his dreams of being an actor and producer. His past film credits include “Think Like a Man” and “Baggage Claim.”
“I took some time off this summer and I produced and I starred in my first feature film, and I'm really excited about it and it's coming out at the top of the year,” Jenkins, 33, explained. “It's called ‘The Perfect Match.’ ... I've had a lot of opportunities come in in the acting space, both behind the camera and in front of the camera. And so, with all of that said, I wanted to announce today that I'll be leaving ‘E! News.’”
The anchor said he “didn't want to do the long, drawn-out goodbye,” so he made the announcement just one day before leaving. His last show will be Wednesday.
Jenkins thanked fans on Twitter for their support. “Thank you all for the love & support, you'll are the best,” he wrote. “I appreciate everything and can't wait for this next chapter!!!” He also sent fans a little message with the hope that they’ll follow their dreams too.
Jenkins’ departure marks the second loss for “E! News” this year. Giuliana Rancic also left her position this summer, but she still co-hosts red carpet specials and “Fashion Police.” Rancic tweeted her support for Jenkins following his announcement.
