Why Was Vanessa Hudgens ‘Nervous’ About Being A Judge In ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Season 14?

“So You Think You Can Dance” Season 14 judge Vanessa Hudgens recently admitted that she was initially scared of accepting the gig after it was offered to her.

While speaking with Extra TV, the “High School Musical” alum said that she was nervous because she didn’t want to be mean to any of the dancers who will audition. “I was totally nervous because you have to have some bad auditioners and I don’t want to be mean. I had to figure out a way to let them down easy,” she said.

A few episodes down and Hudgens has not yet said a harsh word to any of the contestants. In fact, during the premiere episode, the actress even danced with one of the male contestants, whom Lythgoe said was the American version of Austin Powers. He did not make the cut as his routine wasn’t up to par, but Hudgens made it sure that he will have a memorable experience on the “So You Think You Can Dance” stage.

Meanwhile, Hudgens also shared her thoughts about fellow judge Mary Murphy, who just returned to the hit FOX reality TV competition this season. The actress said that Murphy is very sweet, but she’s also very loud.

When asked who her standout contestants from Season 14 are, Hudgens revealed that she enjoyed watching the Russian twins who did a lyrical/contemporary piece.

“So You Think You Can Dance” Season 14 did not air a new episode this week, but Hudgens, Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe will return next Monday for the last audition episode of the season. Also in next week’s installment, the 10 all-stars will finally be introduced in the show.

Ten aspiring contestants will have the chance to work with an all-star throughout the entire season. Unfortunately, only the top three pairs will make it to the finals sometime in September. “So You Think You Can Dance” fans will get the chance to vote for their favorite contestants when the live shows kick off in the coming weeks.
