A woman in the Indian state of Maharashtra is accused of killing a 16-year-old girl who allegedly had a "physical relationship" with her husband, authorities said.
The assailant called the teenage victim to a secluded place in the village of Mahul in Mumbai to record a confession under Section 164 of India's Code of Criminal Procedure, the Times of India reported, citing an unnamed police official.
There, the woman and a female friend allegedly strangled the minor. They then tied the victim's hands and legs, put her body in a sack and dumped it, according to authorities.
Police in the locality of Nehru Nagar found the sack containing the deceased teen floating along a riverbed near Buntar Bhavan in Kurla Tuesday.
Authorities registered a murder first information report against unknown persons and started an investigation following the discovery.
After examining surveillance footage, police ended up finding images of an autorickshaw stopping near the riverbed and a person throwing something into it.
They were then able to identify the registration of the vehicle and tracked down the driver, who helped them in the case by disclosing information regarding the women who had hired him.
Police detained the woman and her friend Thursday.
"Initially the two denied any involvement, but when interrogated separately, the truth came out," an officer said.
The woman was angered because the victim, a resident of Quresh Nagar, was allegedly in a "physical relationship" with her husband, according to police.
Authorities are still looking for three more accomplices who allegedly aided and abetted the woman.
They will be charged with violation of Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code for destruction of evidence, senior inspector Chandrashekar Bhabal said.
Around six months prior to her death, the deceased minor filed a sexual assault complaint against a 51-year-old man, authorities noted.
Police arrested the man under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
It was unclear if the arrested man and the women accused of killing the teen were related.
In a similar story, a security guard in India's Telangana state murdered his wife nearly a week ago because the victim had an affair with his brother, authorities claimed.
