Will ABC’s ‘Whiskey Cavalier’ Have A Season 2? Renewal, Cancellation Details
The mission is over for “Whiskey Cavalier.”
The ABC spy dramedy airs its Season 1 finale tonight, but the episode will double as the show’s series finale as ABC chose not to renew it for Season 2 earlier this month.
Somehow, taking a few popular TV actors — like “Scandal” alum Scott Foley, “The Walking Dead” actress Lauren Cohan, “Devious Maids” alum Ana Ortiz and “Quantico” actor Josh Hopkins — and putting them in a genre that so many often tune in for — the spy procedural — and adding in a little comedy didn’t equal out to be a ratings win for ABC.
“Whiskey Cavalier” comes in at number 18 out of 22 scripted ABC shows in the 18-49 demo with an average rating of 0.56, according to TV Series Finale, and 15 out of 22 in average weekly viewers with 3.309 million.
The only show below it in the demo that’s been renewed is “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD,” which was renewed for another season before its current one even began airing, while the rest were also canceled.
“Black-ish,” “How to Get Away with Murder” and “Fresh off the Boat” had less average viewers than “Whiskey Cavalier” and were renewed anyway, but they did better in the all-important 18-49 demo and also all have a committed audience from being on the air for a few seasons already.
If fans aren’t able to somehow save the show with their #SaveWhiskeyCavalier campaign on Twitter, they’ll be saying goodbye to it for good when Season 1, episode 13, titled “Czech Mate,” airs tonight.
In the finale, “Ollerman [Dylan Walsh] attempts to force the team to commit a terrorist attack for The Trust using Ray’s [Hopkins] life as leverage,” according to the synopsis. “Meanwhile, Jai [Vir Das] helps Standish [Tyler James Williams] deal with a revelation about Tina [Marika Domińczyk], and Will [Foley] and Frankie [Cohan] come to a realization about their relationship.”
The Season 1 (and series) finale of “Whiskey Cavalier,” which was written by David Hemingson and directed by Peter Atencio, airs on ABC on Wednesday at 10 p.m. EDT.
