Will ‘Gilmore Girls’ Continue On Netflix? Lauren Graham Isn’t Sure Season 2 Is Necessary
“Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” ended on a pretty big cliffhanger, but that doesn’t mean the show is coming back. Lauren Graham, who plays Lorelai, explained that she isn’t sure that Stars Hollow should be revived again on Netflix.
“If it all existed in a vacuum, I would play that character until my dying day… Now it’s become what could we do with this story that is satisfying, that is worth continuing,” Graham told TVLine. “I don’t know if there is a need to do more. I wouldn’t want it to feel like we overstayed our welcome.”
This echoes what Alexis Bledel has been saying for months. As previously reported, the Rory actress said she’ll only return if it’s a story worth telling.
“It all depends on the story,” Bledel explained to Entertainment Tonight in November. “And I don’t know, I feel so grateful to get to do [‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’] that I’m not even looking forward necessarily at the prospect of doing more. I also feel like it’s such a special story that I don’t want to exploit it, or do too much, you know?”
Despite reports that Netflix started preliminary conversations about a possible second season for the “Gilmore Girls” revival, Graham has yet to be approached for a second season on Netflix. However, she also noted that she discovered the first revival was happening through the media before Netflix approached her.
In any case, the “Gilmore Girls” stars and writers are keeping busy with other projects. Bledel will be seen later this month in Hulu’s highly anticipated “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Graham is starring “Linda from HR,” a comedy pilot for Fox as well as a role in the upcoming season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino also made a pilot for Amazon, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”
Of course, if “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” does return to Netflix, we definitely want certain things answered. Check out all of our lingering questions HERE.
