Will Hallmark’s ‘Chesapeake Shores’ Have A Season 5? Renewal, Cancellation, Spinoff Movie News
“Chesapeake Shores” Season 4 comes to a close tonight with its finale episode, but what comes next? Will there be a Season 5 of the Hallmark Channel drama?
Unfortunately, the network hasn’t officially renewed the Jesse Metcalfe and Meghan Ory-led series for another season yet, but it also hasn’t been canceled. The future of the show is actually looking promising, despite the fact that it had a shorter season this time around with only six episodes.
“Chesapeake Shores” is currently averaging a 0.18 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.7 million weekly viewers ahead of tonight’s Season 4 finale, according to TV Series Finale. Compared to last season, which averaged a 0.21 rating in the demo and 1.567 million weekly viewers over its 10-episode run, including its finale, this season, so far, is pretty close in numbers.
It’s a little lower in the demo, but that’s not as important for Hallmark as it might be for other companies because the channel tends to skew a little older in the audience, in general. It’s averaging slightly more viewers than last season, and that could show Hallmark that the drama is still growing and starting to find a larger audience, or simply able to retain the audience it does have.
Last week, during a Facebook Live chat with Barbara Niven (Megan O’Brien), Diane Ladd (Nell O’Brien) and Treat Williams (Mick O’Brien), Michelle Vicary, the Executive Vice President of Programming and Network Program Publicity at Crown Media Family Networks, said things were looking good for “Chesapeake Shores” to get a Season 5 renewal.
“Ratings are great, we’re the number two show in cable, ratings are – we had a big pop last weekend,” she said. “We have more viewers watching all together than we had last season, so the show is building. It’s going places. I feel very good about it.”
Even without another season in the works just yet, Chessies still have more “Chesapeake Shores” to look forward to as the spinoff movie with the O’Brien sisters is still in development.
“Our viewers have fallen in love with the O’Brien sisters, characters filled with pure joy, humor and heart,” Vicary said in a press release earlier this year. “We are excited to dive deeper into their roles and shed more light on each of their journeys as these women balance romance, friendship, and family.”
In the Hallmark film, Ory, Emilie Ullerup and Laci Mailey will reprise their roles from the show.
“With the winter weather dreary in Chesapeake Shores and their own love lives in a complicated state, Abby (Ory), Bree (Ullerup) and Jess (Mailey), adventure to Rome for the wedding of a childhood friend,” the synopsis reveals. “While in Rome, they discover the wedding plans are in complete chaos and the bride may have a case of pre-wedding jitters because she has gone missing. In an attempt to find the bride, the O’Brien sisters scour the sites of Rome and work to create a happily ever after, while ultimately realizing the romance they each deserve back home in Chesapeake Shores.”
An air date for the spinoff movie has not yet been announced. In the meantime, fans can catch the “Chesapeake Shores” Season 4 finale when it airs on Sunday at 8 p.m. EDT on Hallmark Channel.
