ABC will be airing new episodes of “American Idol” starting next year, and fans couldn’t help but wonder if Simon Cowell will be involved in the project.

Earlier this month, it has been announced that “American Idol” Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson will be acting as a judge in the reboot. She will be joined by award-winning singer and songwriter Katy Perry.

In an interview with Deadline, Cowell said that he doesn’t think he will ever be involved in “American Idol” like he was in the past. “I don’t really have any involvement in that show, other than my time spent on it. I doubt very much I would ever be involved in that show again. The thing about that show was, sometimes you just create magic without realizing you’re creating it, whether it was the producers, the judges, the host – everything just worked,” he said.

When “American Idol” premiered on FOX on June 11, 2002, Cowell was still joined by his fellow judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson. But “America’s Got Talent” judge Cowell said that one by one, the people who made “American Idol” a hit for years just left the franchise. “And one by one they left and you could feel it coming. It was like because there is not much of a format with ‘Idol,’ for me, ‘Idol’ is a memory, a great memory at the beginning,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cowell is currently involved in NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” a show that he believes deserves an Emmy award. The judge and music mogul said that it’s frustrating to think NBC’s “The Voice” receives countless nods at the Emmys every year, but the same cannot be said about “America’s Got Talent.”

He added that he wants the reality TV show to be noticed this year because “America’s Got Talent” is so much more difficult to make than “American Idol,” but the debunked series has received nominations in the past. “I watched a couple of episodes last year, and I’m not trying to be biased, but I genuinely thought this was the best TV I’d seen probably in all the years I’ve done it,” he said in reference to “AGT.”
