A woman was arrested by the FBI for stirring up a commotion on a Delta Air Lines flight from Tampa to Atlanta.
The unruly passenger is accused of slapping the man and demanding him to put his mask on; however, the woman was seen wearing her own mask below her chin in the video shared on social media.
Atlanta police identified the woman as Patricia Cornwall, who was traveling on Flight 2790 on Thursday and was detained upon the flight’s arrival at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, according to NBC News.
The video posted on social media captured the woman, with her own mask hanging around her neck, cursing and screaming at the man to wear his mask, who also responded with his own choice of insults.
“Put your f— mask on!” the woman yelled.
“Sit down, Karen!” the man retaliated, according to the New York Post.
It is unclear how the scuffle began, but the video appears to show the passenger slapping the man after he said to her, you got your mask down, b***h."
“Now you’re going to jail. That’s assault. You’re going to jail as soon as we get to Atlanta,” the man said in response.
The woman “went crazy on the airplane, punched this man in the face, spit on him, scratched him (and) poured hot water on my leg,” a voice could be heard saying in the background of the clip.
A statement from the Atlanta Police Department said they arrived at gate A11 and waited for the flight to land after receiving a “disturbance call” about an “unruly passenger.” Once the aircraft arrived at the gate, officers were able to speak to passengers exiting the flight about the “disturbance” caused while in the air. Cornwall was eventually detained by officers.
“This disturbance lead to the injury of fellow passengers and Delta employees,” said the Atlanta Police Department’s statement. The officers also got the FBI involved.
“Based on the statements gathered and visible evidence, officers detained Ms. Cornwall and contacted the on-call FBI agent,” the police said. “The officers then relocated with Ms. Cornwall to the domestic Atlanta Police precinct where FBI agents responded and took custody of Ms. Cornwall.”
Delta Air Lines also released a statement Monday in light of the incident. “Flight 2790 from Tampa to Atlanta was met by law enforcement after an unruly customer disturbance during flight,” the statement said. “Situations like these are rare for the vast majority of our customers and Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior at our airports and aboard our aircraft.”
