WWE: Roman Reigns' Backstage Update Ahead Of Friday Night SmackDown
KEY POINTS
- Roman Reigns has recovered from coronavirus
- He is the current WWE Universal Champion
- He could face off against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania
WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns has recovered after contracting coronavirus last month and is set to make an appearance later this week.
Reigns was initially scheduled to face off against Brock Lesnar at WWE Day1 in Atlanta but that didn’t happen after the former tested positive for COVID-19. Following that, Lesnar was added to the WWE Championship match, which the Beast Incarnate won by defeating Big E, Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley and Kevin Owens in a Fatal Five-Way bout.
The WWE Company, in an official release, announced Thursday that Reigns has tested negative for COVID-19 and will be appearing on this week’s Friday Night SmackDown.
On this week's Raw, Lesnar warned Reigns that he was heading to the blue brand this week. This means that the two could come face to face Friday.
Despite Lesnar winning the WWE Championship, the WWE Company is understood to be sticking to their original plan of pitting the Beast against Reigns at WrestleMania.
"Everything is worked out. All the original plans, there were some changes obviously because the Lesnar and Roman Reigns match from Saturday didn’t happen, but they’ve got their new twists and turns, and the final destination, which is presumably Lesnar and Roman Reigns, is still on," American journalist Dave Meltzer was quoted as saying by Wrestletalk.
"The Show of Shows," WrestleMania, is going to be a two-night affair this year and is scheduled to take place on April 3 at Texas’ AT&T Stadium.
Last August, when Lesnar returned to WWE after being away for nearly one and a half years, he set his sights on the Universal Champion Reigns. Lesnar and Reigns eventually locked horns at the Crown Jewel pay-per-view in Saudi Arabia. The Beast Incarnate, who ended The Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania, lost the match, thanks to interference from The Usos.
