‘The X-Files’ Season 11 Spoilers: New Featurette Teases Return Of Mulder’s Half-Brother
Does Mulder’s half-brother know where William is?
In a new featurette teasing the upcoming Season 11 of “The X-Files,” Scully (Gillian Anderson) is reunited with Mulder’s (David Duchovny) half-brother Jeffrey Spender (Chris Owens). Spender visits Scully in the hospital, and during his visit, Scully seems to have asked him about the whereabouts of her son William.
Surprisingly, Spender reveals that Scully previously made him promise to hide William. While she admits that she actually did that, Scully begs Spender to break that promise, noting that “Mulder’s life may depend on it.”
In the Season 10 finale, Mulder was at death’s door due to a widespread contagion that threatened humankind. Scully, who was immune from the disease, quickly developed a vaccine, but it wasn’t enough to save Mulder. Scully is eager to find William because she believes that he could be the key to curing Mulder.
“This season we learn so much about William and his abilities to the degree that he is a wonderful mystery,” Anderson teases in the featurette.
But as revealed in the synopsis for Season 11, episode 1, Mulder and Scully learn that they aren’t the only ones who are desperately searching for their long-lost son. Details about the other party interested in finding William have been scarce, but in the Season 11 trailer released at New York Comic Con last October, Mulder is seen talking to a man (A.C. Peterson) who also needs William.
In a separate interview with TV Insider, Anderson said that William’s return to the series comes with a “good story.” “The way they introduce him as a three-dimensional character is a good story,” the actress said. “There is so much emotion and grief in the choices Scully’s made.”
Anderson and Duchovny also confirmed that viewers are going to see William in the new season. Anderson told TVLine last October that the actor who was cast to play William “looks like a normal kid.” But interestingly, Duchovny revealed that William doesn’t resemble any of his parents. “He resembles two people that aren’t Mulder and Scully. And when you read this back [after watching the episodes] you’ll figure this out,” the actor teased.
“The X-Files” Season 11 premieres on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
