“Young Sheldon” will serve as a prequel to “Big Bang Theory,” but it will only focus on Sheldon Cooper (Armitage) alone. In the new series, a much younger Sheldon will take center stage, and the backstory of the well-loved character will be unveiled. Sheldon’s immediate family will also be a huge part of the spinoff, most especially his mom, Mary Cooper (Zoe Perry), and dad, George Cooper Sr. (Lance Barber).
The teaser for “Young Sheldon” opens with Jim Parsons narrating the adventures of the adorable Sheldon. Snippets from some of his scenes in “Big Bang Theory” are also shown in the five-minute clip. Mayim Bialik’s Amy, Kunal Nayyar’s Raj and Simon Helberg’s Howard also make cameos in the hilarious teaser before it flashes back to 1989.
During this time, a young Sheldon is already showing signs of being a genius. He has a hard time making friends at school because he tends to get bored easily during class discussions. He also happens to be a tattletale so not many people like him. In fact, even his twin sister and older brother are not fond of him.
At a young age, Sheldon struggles when it comes to expressing his emotions. But one scene from the clip proves that he has a kind heart. When he finds out that his dad has been laid off from work, Sheldon, who is typically grossed out by any form of physical contact, removes his gloves and holds his father’s hand in prayer. George looks at Sheldon, and he immediately realizes that he’s not so different after all.
