‘Young Sheldon’ Season 1 Spoilers: Will Sheldon’s Dad Die In Future Episodes?
“Young Sheldon” will not just bring viewers laughs, it will likely bring tears as well.
In “Big Bang Theory” Season 7, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) told Bernadette’s (Melissa Rauch) dad (Casey Sander) that his father passed away when he was 14 years old. In “Young Sheldon” Season 1, Sheldon (Iain Armitage) is only 9 years old. He is living with his parents and siblings in Texas. If the series, created by showrunner Steve Molaro, will be renewed for multiple seasons like “Big Bang Theory,” George’s (Lance Barber) death will inevitably be shown.

While at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Tuesday, “Young Sheldon” executive producer Chuck Lorre revealed whether or not George will eventually be killed off. “We’re not going to play fast and loose with history. But ‘Young Sheldon’ takes place five years before George’s death. And people change and grow and develop, and things happen over the course of many years. And we don’t have to follow exact timelines. A season doesn’t have to be a year. It could be a couple months. We have a lot of freedom with the backstory,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sheldon has seldom said anything positive about George in “Big Bang Theory.” In fact, even Sheldon’s mom, Mary Cooper (Laurie Metcalf) has rarely praised George. She has also not mentioned a lot of positive things about her estranged husband in the history of the CBS sitcom.
However, Lorre said that they will give fans a better idea of the kind of person George really is in “Young Sheldon.” “We’re going to show that there’s a great deal more to the man than we discussed on ‘Big Bang Theory,’” he said.
In fact, in the trailer released by CBS for “Young Sheldon,” a stern-looking George held his son’s hand while they were praying before their meal. Prior to this, George also looked at the young Sheldon with obvious love in his eyes.
“Young Sheldon” Season 1 will premiere on CBS on Sept. 25 at 8:30 p.m. EST.
