‘Young Sheldon’ Up Against ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 14; Which Show Will Get Higher Ratings?
“Young Sheldon” Season 1 is set to premiere in the fall, and the Iain Armitage-starrer will air every Thursday night right after “Big Bang Theory.”
The schedule of the “Big Bang Theory” prequel makes it a direct competition for ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” NBC’s “Thursday Night Football,” FOX’s “Gotham” and The CW’s “Supernatural.” All four shows have been on air for several seasons and have dominating their specific networks in the respective schedules.

According to TV Line, there is a huge possibility that “Young Sheldon” will do well in terms of demo ratings and viewership since it was tested among the fans of “Big Bang Theory.” Even though the Jim Parsons-starrer has been airing at 8 p.m. every Thursday night for multiple seasons, and given that it has been up against the likes of “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Big Bang Theory” was still dubbed as the highest-rating show for 2016 to 2017. The Ellen Pompeo-starrer only ranked third in the drama category.
Additionally, the publication noted that Armitage’s portrayal of a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper is actually pretty impressive. The young actor was last seen on television in HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” where he played the role of Shailene Woodley’s son. Also part of the ensemble is “Scandal” recurring guest star Zoe Perry. The actress will play the role of Sheldon’s mom, Mary Cooper. Perry also happens to be the real life daughter of Laurie Metcalf, the actress who have been giving life to Mary in “Big Bang Theory.”
Meanwhile, the trailer for “Young Sheldon,” which was released earlier this month, has also received more than 22 million views, according to CBS. This is a combined figure among those who watched the short clip on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, according to Deadline.
“Young Sheldon” will be narrated by Parsons. It also stars Lance Barber as Sheldon’s dad George, Raegan Revord as Sheldon’s twin sister Missy and Montana Jordan as Sheldon’s older brother George Jr. The new series is set to premiere on Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. EDT, but will move to the 8:30 p.m. EDT time slot on CBS starting Nov. 2.
