Zayn Malik, Perrie Edwards Call Off Engagement; Little Mix Singer Reportedly 'Devastated' Over Split
It appears that Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards won't be getting married after all. The couple got engaged nearly two years ago in August 2013. At the time they had been dating for a little over a year.
E! News broke the story early Tuesday morning reporting the two had decided not to move forward with a wedding. Now People magazine claims the decision was entirely Malik's, and that his former fiancée is "devastated." Sources tell the publication that, although the news just went public, Malik and Edwards have been broken up for close to two weeks.
"She's been putting on a brave face, as Little Mix have had promotion to do, but she's obviously devastated," the source said.
The news comes just one day after Malik and Edwards topped Capital FM Radio's list of "Sexiest Male and Female in Pop 2015." Joining them on the list was Harry Styles, Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato. After the poll results were announced Perrie took to Twitter to thank the radio station. She appeared to be in disbelief that she could have won, suggesting the award should have been "for #QueenB," referencing Beyoncé who was also on the list.
Throughout a majority of their engagement both Malik and Edwards remained tight-lipped about their future plans. In fact, as we previously reported, Edwards said on June 15 that she was sick of being asked if she and her then fiancé had decided on a wedding date. She told Capital FM, "I'll get married when I'm bloody ready!" The pair did apparently have some preliminary planning for their impending nuptials done, however. In May the Little Mix singer told The Sun she and Malik's ever-changing schedules made planning a wedding extremely difficult.
Neither Malik nor Edwards has publicly addressed their split at this time. Several fans of both pop stars have taken to Twitter to express their sadness over the breakup.
