KEY POINTS
- Zendaya launched her first clothing line, Daya by Zendaya in 2013
- Zendaya is the youngest recipient of the Fashion Icon award
- She joins Lady Gaga and Pharrell Williams as Fashion Icons of CFDA
Zendaya was named Fashion Icon in last Wednesday's Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards in New York City and Tom Holland wasted no time in congratulating his "Spider-Man" co-star on social media.
Zendaya’s rumored boyfriend took to his Instagram page Thursday and posted a snap of the actress in her sexy ensemble at the red-carpet event of the awards ceremony. He praised the actress saying, “ Naaa stop it _ . An incredible achievement for the most incredible person. Congrats @zendaya and @luxurylaw you guys deserve every bit of this. ”
The post has since received over six million likes with most of the commenters gushing over Holland's gesture for the 25-year-old actress.
Though Zendaya is young, CFDA’s CEO Steven Kolb explained why she was an easy choice for the award.
“She has made such a tremendous impact on style, and she’s such a fan,” Kolb told The Hollywood Reporter. “She may be young, but she is an icon,” he added.
Zendaya, now the youngest recipient of the award, admitted that the award has not sunk in yet.
"It's kind of a dream and beyond my imagination," she said in an exclusive ET report. "It doesn't feel quite real…I was saying, I probably won't even absorb the night until a few weeks from now. I'm still living in a dream," the actress added.
Zendaya donned a bright red elegant two-piece Vera Wang ensemble as she received the award at The Pool + The Grill in New York City’s Seagram Building. She capped her look with a diamond necklace, bracelet and rings by Bulgari.
CFDA previously said Zendaya is being recognized "for her global impact on fashion” having supported emerging designers and mega fashion houses in the course of her career, according to the ET report.
Zendaya launched her first clothing line, Daya by Zendaya in 2013 which featured gender-fluid designs in inclusive sizes. Aside from this, the former child model has also previously partnered with Tommy Hilfiger and is currently a spokesperson for luxury brands Lancôme, Bulgari and Valentino.
As a Fashion Icon, Zendaya joins previous recipients including Beyoncé, Rihanna, Naomi Campbell, Lady Gaga and Pharrell Williams.
Also on Wednesday, “The Queen’s Gambit” actress Anya Taylor-Joy received the Face of the Year, a new award in 2021.
The CFDA raised roughly $500,000 in the awards night which will be used for scholarships for design students. Two new scholarship categories were added this year: one for designers dedicated to social justice issues in their work and another for designers with families impacted by the global pandemic, The Hollywood Reporter said.
