It’s a whole new world on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 4. In the last episode, Daisy and Simmons realized that their escape plan doesn’t work. They are stuck in the Framework, and this world is nothing like their own. In episode 17, they’ll be searching for a way out, but they might have more help.

“As Daisy and Simmons struggle to discover an escape route to the real world, the identity of the Inhuman leader of the Resistance is revealed,” the episode 17 synopsis reveals.

So who is leading the Resistance in the Framework? It could be anyone, but it’s worth noting that Jeffrey Mace (Jason O’Mara) is coming back to the ABC drama next week, in an episode titled “Identity and Change.” New posters for the Framework segment of the season also show Mace in an upgraded Patriot costume that proudly displays the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo along with Wanted signs. Could he be Inhuman in this alternate universe?

The promo video for “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 4, episode 17 reveals that Daisy (Chloe Bennet) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) will be meeting up with a few other familiar faces in the Framework. Mack (Henry Simmons) is seen hugging his daughter, and Simmons demands Radcliffe (John Hannah) help them. “I’m afraid there is no escape from this place,” Radcliffe says.

Will there be others that fans recognize in the Resistance? It seems like executive producer Jed Whedon hinted at that. “One would assume that you’d recognize one or two people in there,” Whedon told Entertainment Weekly. “We’ve had a lot of fun breaking these stories. I think it’ll be just as fun for the audience as it was for us to play the game of ‘What If?’”

While fans are hoping that long gone fan favorites like Trip (B.J. Britt) and Mockingbird (Adrianne Palicki) will return the way Ward (Brett Dalton) has, Whedon wouldn’t confirm anything. “I would say that you should have reasonable expectations. Get excited. There will be some fun. I don’t want to spoil anything,” he added.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 4, episode 17 airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
