‘America’s Got Talent’ 12: Angelica Hale, Christian Guardino Dominate Semifinals
“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 recently saw two young contestants dominate the semifinals on Tuesday night.
Nine-year-old singer Angelica Hale was the last contestant to take the Dolby Theater stage, so she made sure to end the live show with a bang. The Filipino-American singer’s rendition of David Guetta’s 2011 hit song, “Without You,” brought all four judges to their feet.
Hale, who wants to become this season’s winner, left everything on stage during her performance. She shocked everyone when she hit the high notes and did her falsettos flawlessly. By the looks of it, Hale could instantly make it to the grand finals. But if America won’t vote for her, she could have a career in the industry anyway, as judge Simon Cowell previously predicted.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old formerly blind contestant Christian Guardino is back, and judge Mel B told him that he deserves a spot in the next round. The teenager performed a slow version of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On.” He also brought the Spice Girls singer, Heidi Klum, Cowell and Howie Mandel to their feet.
But the competition has been tough for Mandel’s golden buzzer recipient since he was one of the three contestants who competed in the Dunkin Save during the first quarterfinals round. Guardino was saved by America’s live votes that night and made it to the semifinals two weeks later.
Other contestants who left the judges and live audience in awe were Kechi Okwuchi, whose version of “Don’t Worry About Me” made Mel B a bit emotional. Cowell’s golden buzzer recipient, Mandy Harvey, also did an amazing job with her original song.
Dance group Diavolo and mind reader Colin Cloud also shocked the audiences and judges after they stepped up their performances. Unfortunately, out of the 11 acts that performed, only five will make it through to the grand finals next week.
“America’s Got Talent” Season 12 airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
