Deran has been trying to assert his authority as the new leader of the Cody family, but on “Animal Kingdom” Season 5, Episode 7, things begin to spiral out of control.

“Pope (Shawn Hatosy) confronts his demons with the help of a desert guru,” the “Splinter” synopsis teases.

In the promo video for the TNT series, Pope can be seen standing in front of the woman he met in the desert as she points a gun at him. He then tells her it’s ok because he deserves it. The woman is later seen pulling the trigger.

Pope has been hearing voices and seeing things ever since Smurf’s (Ellen Barkin) death. He fled to the desert in search of answers, but will he meet the same fate as Smurf instead?

“Deran (Jake Weary) marks his territory as J (Finn Cole) handles business” the “Animal Kingdom” Season 5, Episode 7 synopsis says. In the “Splinter” promo video, Deran confronts J about not asking the family about a certain decision. However, J reveals they needed to protect themselves and stuck by his choice.

Deran has moved back home to keep an eye on J, but it seems J has managed to continue to conduct business while keeping his uncle out of the loop.

How far will Deran go to secure his spot as the leader of the Cody family?

“Craig struggles with the demands of fatherhood,” the synopsis for the TNT drama states.

In the promo video, Craig can be seen pushing down a man while Renn (Christina Ochoa) attacks someone. Craig has been having a difficult time adjusting to his new responsibilities as the head of his little family with Renn due to his life of crime.

Will Craig and Renn be able to step back from their criminal lifestyles long enough to be parents to their son?

“Animal Kingdom” Season 5, episode 7 airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on TNT.
