Anna Wintour Dismisses Miley Cyrus: No Vogue Cover After Raunchy VMA Performance
Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has chosen not to put Miley Cyrus on the cover of the elite fashion magazine's December issue after her raunchy performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last month, reports claim. During the awards show, the 20-year-old former Disney Channel star wore latex underwear on stage while joining singer Robin Thicke for a version of his summer hit, “Blurred Lines.”
Wintour was not impressed, with a source telling the Daily Mail, "Anna found the whole thing distasteful. She decided, based on Miley’s performance, to take the cover in a different direction.” Cyrus reportedly had already been photographed for the December issue, and this would have been her first cover for the iconic Conde Nast magazine.
Cyrus’ wild antics during the show included sticking her tongue out as she twerked on the 36-year-old crooner, nuzzling his neck and touching his groin with a giant foam hand. Even the “We Can’t Stop” singer’s fiancé, Liam Hemsworth, was reportedly embarrassed by the performance. The 23-year-old Australian actor has kept silent about it, but his friends say he is certainly having second thoughts about walking down the aisle with the new twerk queen.
“Liam really does care about Miley, but her racy new look and sort of ghetto attitude isn’t exactly what he signed up for,” a friend tells RadarOnline. “Her VMA performance absolutely mortified him, and he couldn’t be more embarrassed. He doesn’t really see anything sexy about what she did on stage.”
Hemsworth proposed to Cyrus in May 2012 with a 3.5-carat diamond ring, but it's been speculated for the past few months that they are having relationship trouble. They began dating in 2009 after co-starring in the film “The Last Song.”
