Is Kate Middleton as popular as her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana?

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are more favored by the British public compared to Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles. In fact, there were rumors that Queen Elizabeth II wanted the Duke of Cambridge to take over the throne after her and skip the Prince of Wales.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are also gaining their own set of followers. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s popularity was evident when they decided to create their own Instagram account.

There is no doubt that Middleton and Markle are very popular. However, they can't seem tp beat the late Princess Diana in the popularity game.

A recent poll by the 2019 Opinium Monarchy Tracker revealed that 62 percent of the British public favored Middleton, while only 39 percent supported Markle. Michelle Kapusta believes that when it comes to polls that include Princess Diana, “no one can match her popularity and status.”

“Diana was more interested in that high-voltage celebrity, that was something she really embraced. One of the things I’ve learned in this job is how much celebrity is a decision,” Alexandra Schulman said.

“The Duchess of Cambridge is prepared to do her bit, but it’s not one of the things that she most cares about,” Shulman continued. “She loves her kids and the countryside. Dressing up, that’s a professional side to her. It’s a sort of uniform, all those lovely couture costumes.”

In 2018, Princess Diana topped the list of 100 world’s most iconic women, with 57 percent of the vote rooting for her. Middleton got 33 percent of the votes, landing her on the second spot.

Schulman added that Middleton is “incredibly likable.” She finds the duchess very professional. However, she might have a hard time stepping out of Princess Diana’s shadow.

Meanwhile, many compared Markle to Princess Diana, with even Prince Harry's pal George Clooney speaking up about their similarities. However, some netizens slammed the “Money Monster” star for doing so and said that he was “clueless.”

Piers Morgan was among those who had a problem with Clooney’s statement. According to him, there was no comparison, especially when it came to the amount of media attention that Markle and Princess Diana received. The People’s Princess was one of the biggest stars in the palace, while the Duchess of Sussex isn’t even one of the top three biggest stars in Kensington Palace.
