‘Avengers: Endgame’ Tickets Go On Sale, But Websites Can’t Handle Excited Fans
Update: 11:08 a.m. EDT — The AMC Theatres website has completely crashed.
Original story: “Avengers: Endgame” tickets are finally on sale, but fans will have to wait to get them. Many movie ticket websites were experiencing difficulties due to high traffic on Tuesday morning.
The tickets went up for sale early Tuesday morning along with a new trailer, but the websites seemed to go down faster than Thanos can snap his fingers. With so many fans trying to buy passes at once, the ticket websites are giving people service errors.
The AMC Theatres website came up with an error code when trying to purchase seats. When simply clicking on “Avengers: Endgame” on Atom’s website, a “Sorry…we were unable to process your request due to a service error” message popped up.
Though Twitter users reported issues with Fandango, the site at least appeared to be more prepared for the influx of traffic. While many customers weren’t allowed to buy tickets right away, they were put into a virtual queue with estimated wait times. Many were stuck with the estimated wait time as “more than an hour.”
It wasn’t just the U.S. sites either. The U.K.’s Odeon and Vue both apologized for their sites experiencing issues after “Endgame” tickets went on sale.
The ticket issues dominated the online conversation on Tuesday morning. The hashtags #AvengersEndgame and #AvengersEndgametickets were trending on Twitter worldwide along with the phrase "Avengers Tickets" and Fandango.
“Avengers: Endgame” is expected to be a beast at the box office. It’s a direct sequel to last year’s blockbuster “Avengers: Infinity War.” The movie, released in April 2018, earned over $2 billion, becoming the fourth highest-earning film of all time.
The upcoming movie is considered the culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far. “Endgame” will be the 22nd film released in the franchise from the Disney-owned Marvel Studios. The comic book adaptation will pick up after “Infinity War,” which ended with the villain winning. Thanos (Josh Brolin) succeeded in his plan to wipe out half the universe. Now, the Avengers must do whatever it takes to stop him.
“Avengers: Endgame” is in theaters April 26.
