Blackpink’s Rosé made her debut appearance at the prestigious Met Gala as a global brand ambassador of Yves Saint Laurent.
Roseanne Park, also known as Rosé, arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday escorted by Belgian fashion designer and Yves Saint Laurent creative director, Anthony Vaccarello.
The K-Pop star attended the glitzy event for the first time but she exuded confidence on the red carpet as she posed gamely for the cameras.
The Met Gala is an annual gathering where top models, designers and celebrities come together to raise funds for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It also marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.
Former 2NE1 member CL also attended the red carpet event and wore an Alexander Wang denim coat over a white undergarment.
The appearance of Rose and rapper CL at the Met Gala is a momentous occasion for K-Pop fans as this marks the first time that female idols were invited to the glamorous event. Prior to this, three male K-Pop artists have been invited to the event -- Psy, Rain and EXO boyband member Lay Zhang.
Blackpink’s fans, collectively known as Blinks, celebrated Rosé’s Met Gala appearance on Twitter.
“The main event,” one fan commented.
Another fan simply praised Rosé’s elegant outfit for the event, writing “Simple and chic.”
However, one fan was displeased with how Saint Laurent dressed up the K-Pop star. “They did my girls so wrong she looks good but not met gala good if that makes sense like this seems like something she would wear to a random event. She deserves the best,” the fan wrote.
Previously, speculations on Rosé’s appearance for the Met Gala were thick after she was spotted on Sept. 11 leaving Seoul’s Incheon Airport for New York City.
A day later, celebrity photographer Miles Diggs posted a snap of Rosé leaving a YSL fitting.
Rosé was scouted as YSL’s new brand ambassador in 2020 when she was spotted at the front row of Maison’s Paris show as per Teen Vogue.
The brand announced the 24-year-old singer's appointment as the new ambassador in a black and white short clip tagging renowned British photographer and director David Sims in June 2020.
This year’s The Met Gala is co-chaired by Billie Eilish, Timothée Chalamet, Amanda Gorman and Naomi Osaka. Meanwhile, fashion designer Tom Ford, Instagram Chief Adam Mosseri and Anna Wintour are the event’s honorary chairs.
