People have memorable and unique wildlife-watching experiences when they are on a safari. While some sit back and enjoy watching animals walking around national parks, others experience thrill when wild things approach the vehicle and sometimes even climb into it.

In one such incident, tourists experienced a heart-stopping moment when a buffalo rammed into a safari vehicle while attempting to escape a pride of lions.

The incident took place in South Africa's Kruger National Park.

A video of the encounter showed three lions encircling the buffalo and attacking it. One lion then pounces on the buffalo and sinks its claws and teeth into its back. The lion continues to latch on to the animal’s back for over a minute before the buffalo makes the final attempt at escape.

While trying to run away, the buffalo crashes into the safari vehicle head-first as the lion continues to cling onto its back. The loud sound of the impact scares the lion, which retreats.

However, when the buffalo attempts to escape into the plains, the lions run after the animal.

The video, which was uploaded to YouTube channel Kruger Sightings on Tuesday, has since gone viral with over 600,000 views.

Some people who commented on the video wondered how the tourists managed to keep so calm, while others spoke about the impact of the crash.

"I find it interesting how the lions kind of skid their hind legs around when the Buffalo is trying to spin it off, even when it's not spinning very fast the lions know how to keep their own bodies spinning at the same speed," one person commented.

"Amazing to see this beast is fighting against 3 male lion and nothing wrong to this beast after that impact. Probably those one lion biting the back of the buffalo might got some problem in his tooth due to the strong impact," another person wrote.
