Caitlyn Jenner has expressed her support for Kanye West amid his struggles and presidential bid, calling the rapper a "good friend."
On Monday, Jenner, who was married to West’s mother-in-law Kris Jenner until their divorce in 2015, was asked about the musician’s political ambitions and his health during her appearance on "Good Morning Britain."
The former Olympic athlete, 70, said she has not had a chance to catch up with West as he has been living in Wyoming most of the time. But Jenner said she wished him nothing but the best, revealing that West had been supportive when she announced her transition five years ago.
"The only thing I can talk about is really how he treated me through everything," Jenner said. "He has been the most kind, loving human being and so good to me throughout the years and especially going through everything I’ve been going through in the last five years. He’s been such a good friend."
On whether West would make a good president, Jenner said she "can't even go there."
"We're living in such a political environment today," she said. "It's like, I don't even want to discuss or talk about politics anymore. I'm just kind of over it."
Jenner, born Bruce, came out as transgender in 2015 following years of rumors surrounding her sexuality. She shares two daughters – Kendall and Kylie Jenner – with ex-wife Kris. She also shares sons Brandon and Brody Jenner with Linda Thompson and daughter Cassandra Marino and son Burt with Chrystie Crownover.
Jenner’s comments on West come amid reports of marital discord between the rapper and wife Kim Kardashian. His erratic behavior is said to have caused friction between the couple.
"Kim is very torn," a source told People. "The last thing she wants is to be divorced with four kids. She knows that she will be fine financially, but her concerns are the kids and the partnership."
On July 19, West held his first campaign rally in North Charleston, South Carolina, since announcing his presidential run, and during his speech, he began to cry while speaking about his mother and abortion.
The next day, West went on a Twitter rant, claiming that his wife had attempted to "lock" him up. He also said that his mother-in-law, Kris, was "not allowed around" his four children.
In a now-deleted series of tweets, West also claimed that he had been considering separating from Kardashian since November 2018 after the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star reportedly met with rapper Meek Mill during a criminal justice reform summit.
He has since apologized to his wife for going public with their personal matters.
