Cassie Scerbo On Handling Internet Trolls Amid Gleb Savchenko Romance: ‘I Delete Anything Negative’
KEY POINTS
- Cassie Scerbo says she chose to ignore her bashers because other people's perception of her is none of her business
- Scerbo believes that people who are hurt tend to be destructive, critical and hurtful
- She received hate comments after photos surfaced of her and Gleb Savchenko vacationing together in Cabo San Lucas
Cassie Scerbo got candid about the hate she received after publicizing her relationship with Gleb Savchenko earlier this month.
On Thursday, Scerbo spoke with Entertainment Tonight and opened up about the backlash she faced after photos surfaced of her and the "Dancing with the Stars" pro vacationing together in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Savchenko's estranged wife, Elena Samodanova, had earlier accused him of "ongoing infidelity," which he denied.
For her part, Scerbo, who serves as the vice president of her global Boo2Bullying campaign, chose to ignore her bashers. She also admitted that she didn't understand why she was receiving so much hate but chose not to play victim after she saw others getting much worse treatment than her.
"I think social media is what you make of it, so I choose to make it positive," she told ET. "I follow accounts that are uplifting and, honestly, I delete anything negative. I don't care, I don't even leave it up. I don't even pay mind to it. It goes in one ear and out the other. I know who I am, I know how I was raised, and I know the person that I am, so no one else can really affect me in that way."
The "Make It or Break It" star also realized that "what other people think of you is none of your business," so she learned to just ignore those leaving malicious comments on her social media.
"People are always going to have opinions about you, whether you're famous or not. People are going to have opinions, and it's probably never gonna stop. It's human nature to judge and it sucks. It's horrible, but you have the power to either let that affect you positively or negatively," Scerbo explained.
"My thoughts are as simple as this: Hurt people hurt people," she added. "When I see this trolling happening -- I've seen it on my page, I've seen it on friends' pages, I've seen it on strangers' pages -- it's never something that you want to see. But in my eyes I'm like, 'That person must be hurt.' Like, what's going on in their life that they feel the need to be destructive and critical and hurtful towards other people?"
Savchenko and Samodanova announced their split via Instagram in November amid rumors that he had been unfaithful with his "DWTS" Season 29 partner, Chrishell Stause. The estranged couple share two children, Olivia, 10, and Zlata, 3.
The "Selling Sunset" star had denied the rumors and stressed that she and Savchenko are only friends. Stause is now dating "DWTS" pro Keo Motsepe months after her split from ex-husband Justin Hartley.
