Channing Tatum Reveals His Dead Pet Inspired Him To Make 'Dog'
Channing Tatum says a road trip with his dying dog inspired him to make his latest movie "Dog."
The comedy film, which hit the theaters Friday, is helmed by Tatum and Reid Carolin.
"Developing it [Dog] and really talking about what dogs mean and what dogs mean to specifically me, or to soldiers, or to anyone really, and primarily we landed on this word 'surrender,'" Tatum told Yahoo! on Thursday. "And that was to me really what I had to learn."
The 41-year-old actor recalled how he felt helpless when he took the last road trip with his puppy, named Lulu.
"[I experienced] that feeling of, 'Ther e's nothing I can do. There's nothing left to do.' You just have to accept it and be thankful for the time that you did get and know that they're not supposed to be here forever," he added. "I'm supposed to go on and she has to go someplace else."
However, the dog will not die in the movie. "Dog" has a "good ending," Tatum confirmed when he appeared on the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" show last week.
"Dog" is a family comedy movie that revolves around an Army Ranger, named Briggs, who travels with his dog, Lulu, to attend a soldier's funeral. The movie also stars Skyler Joy, Aqueela Zoll, Cayden Boyd, Ethan Suplee, Jane Adams and Q'orianka Kilcher.
Tatum will be next seen in an action-comedy movie, "The Lost City," which is slated to release on March 25. It also stars Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock, Dan Radcliffe, Patti Harrison and Da'Vine Joy Randolph.
He will feature in actress Zoë Kravitz's directorial debut, "Pussy Island," which is under pre-production. The actor will also appear in the final movie of the popular franchise, "Magic Mike." The flick is titled "Magic Mike's Last Dance" and it is under pre-production.
Tatum will also feature in "Wingmen", which is helmed by director Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
