Charlotte Church Lost First Baby With Husband Johnny Powell Weeks After Announcing Pregnancy
Charlotte Church and Johnny Powell are broken-hearted after losing their first baby together.
On Monday, Church, 31, and Powell shared the devastating news of her miscarriage on Twitter. “Charlotte and Jonny are very sad to announce that they lost their baby. Now is a time for grieving and being together as a family,” the post read.
In another tweet, Church asked for privacy during this time. “We kindly ask everyone to respect that peace,” she wrote.
Just a few weeks ago, the expectant mom had been very excited when she opened up about her pregnancy and their growing family. “It’s great, it’s lovely,” the “Crazy Chick” singer told The Guardian, adding that it “feels very different this time around” compared to her pregnancy when she was 21.

Church and Powell have been together for seven years. The “Call My Name” singer grew up as one of the most popular musicians in her time. In fact, it got to the point where stalkers had even installed secret cameras outside her home to track her movements or take upskirt shots.
Paparazzi followed her everywhere. Her first pregnancy was reported by The Sun even before she had told her parents. Her mom’s mental health crisis and suicide attempts were also exposed by the News of the World. Both instances were due to phone hacking, where she later received £600,000 ($763,000) in damages.
But Church is enjoying a low profile these days unlike during her younger years. Her kids with ex Gavin Henson are homeschooled, and she teaches them if she’s not rehearsing. “My house is spotless. I love jet-washing. There are members of my family who are ill at the moment so generally, I’m running around. We’ve got two dogs. We travel. And we just try to have lots of fun,” Church said about her day-to-day life.
Church and Henson broke up in 2010. According to “The Prayer” songstress, they had a change of heart. “When he proposed, I was overjoyed. It was amazing. I really was going to marry Gav and spend the rest of my life with him,” Church explained, Marie Claire reported. “But then he came back from Norway and he’d changed and I’d had time to think. We had both had a change of heart – so we were both of the same minds.”
Church added that she explained to Henson that there was nothing romantic between her and Powell while she was still with the rugby star. But they later developed feelings for each other and tied the knot.
