Chloe Lukasiak Finds Success After ‘Dance Moms,’ Lands Starring Role In ‘Fool Me Once’ Music Video
Who needs “Dance Moms” when you have a career like Chloe Lukasiak? The former “Dance Moms” star appears to be having no trouble landing career-making gigs following her appearance on the hit Lifetime reality series. After weeks of keeping her fans updated on her YouTube channel, the 13-year-old performer revealed Tuesday she had landed a starring role in musician Jess Godwin’s “Fool Me Once” music video.
In the video, which was also released Tuesday on YouTube, Chloe dances a contemporary number onstage to an empty theater, or so it appears. As Godwin plays the piano next to Chloe, the dancer can be seen watching herself performing from the back of the auditorium. At the end of the video, Chloe’s double comes out of hiding and runs out onto the stage, shocking the dancing version of Chloe.
Following the release of the music video, Chloe shared a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the project on her YouTube channel. The four-minute feature shows her rehearsing the dancing portion of the video with choreographer Kyle Hanagami, who, unlike Chloe’s former coach Abby Lee Miller, has a refreshingly positive approach to teaching.
“It was amazing. So much fun,” Chloe said of her experience filming alongside Godwin.
The rest of Chloe’s behind-the-scenes feature includes clips of her prepping for the big shoot, including a stop at hair and makeup. There is even a cameo by Chloe’s 5-year-old sister, Clara and mother, Christi Lukasiak. In the video, Chloe also tries -- albeit unsuccessfully — her hand at playing the piano.
“We were thinking that when ‘Fool Me Once’ is on the Grammys, she’ll play the piano and I’ll dance. … I’m a great dancer,” Godwin said.
Chloe’s role in “Fool Me Once” is her second music video to date. “Dance Moms” viewers will remember that she won the lead in Lux’s “It's Like Summer" music video during Season 1 of the series in 2011.
Since Chloe is no longer starring on “Dance Moms” — she left the series last year on her own terms following a falling-out with Miller — the “Fool Me Once” shoot will not be shown on the program. The single, however, was previously featured on the series. In the Season 4 episode “The Understudies,” Chloe’s former co-star Maddie Ziegler danced to the song during a solo performance at Sheer Talent competition in Wayne, New Jersey. The following week, ALDC dancer Kendall Vertes competed with an identical performance to the single.
While some of Godwin’s fans are bothered by the use of Chloe instead of Maddie in the music video, Godwin says her choice of Chloe came from a “place of love.” “I sincerely apologize if my actions have made any of you upset,” Godwin posted to her YouTube channel Tuesday. She also encouraged commenters to watch her video “Fool Me Once Story: Understudies, Teaching, and Resilience," which explains her reasoning for choosing Chloe, not Maddie or Kendall, to star in the project.
New episodes of “Dance Moms” air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on Lifetime. To catch up with Chloe and the rest of the Lukasiak family, follow Chloe on Twitter, Instagram and subscribe to her YouTube channel.
